Community Chest

Q. What can these grants of £150 be used for?We expect the community chest fund to be used to help pay for positive opportunities for young people. For example the fund could be used to pay for: equipment, tuition fees, fees for clubs, classes and memberships. *The Community Foundation has limited resources, if you are thinking of encouraging a group or whole class to apply, please contact us first to discuss your plans.

Q. Who can apply?

We invite applications from parents and young people living in Queens Cross Housing Association area of operation, who are aged 25 and under. A parent who is over 25 can still apply for a child or young person who is under 25.

Q. I am working, can I still apply?

Yes – we understand that people in work can also be struggling to meet the cost of raising children or paying for their own personal development.

Q. I have two children; can I apply for grants for both children?

Yes. The Community Chest Grants are up to £150 per young person, not per household.

Q. How many times can I apply?

Once per rolling 24 month period, per child or young person.

Worried about the stigma of applying?

Applicants should also know that they are not alone: The Poverty Alliance have worked out that 58% of working age adults in poverty are in work. Added to which over 500,000 people a year in Scotland earn less than £8.45 per hour. We know that many people struggling to pay for living costs are indeed in work.

Parents and carers can apply on behalf of children and young people aged under 25 years old.

Under 16s should ask a parent or guardian to apply on their behalf. If for any reason this is not possible, please speak to a youth worker, teacher or any other trusted professional known to you and ask for their help.

16 – 25 year olds can also apply directly. If for any reason this is not possible, please speak to a youth worker, teacher or any other trusted professional known to you and ask for their help.
